mower deck spindle assembly question

the mower spindles on the early 80's mower deck ( 05-42ms02 ) have a "spacer" bushing ( # 106170 ) inside the top seal above the top bearing that goes around top of the spindle shaft. The spacer/bushing has a "notch" in it -- Does that notch point up or is it on bottom of the spacer bushing pointing down? Thanks, Bill

Notch down.  If you put it up you'll have a grease leak and chew up your seal.
