I am sure I have read about this on Red Square but of course cant find it when I need it.   1966 10hp Kohler W.H.  engine cranks fine and only produces spark when I let off the switch.

Thank all you guys in advance.  dr.mac

:text-welcomeconfetti:  Have you recently replaced the ignition switch?  There may be a short in your original, or you procured the wrong replacement…

Handy Don

Use the search bar on the upper right of this page to look for the manual.

Key in “tractor 1966 nnn” where nnn = your model number

Search in Files or Documents

Be sure to check the “use all my search terms” option.

OM = owner's manual

IPL = illustrated parts list

Wiring = wiring diagram included

Sometimes if your battery is a bit low on charge, you have some bad electrical connections, a failing coil, starter motor etc, the starter whilst turning causes a voltage drop in the ignition circuit which can result in a weak, or no spark. On releasing the key, the coil ‘sees’ a higher voltage and produces a spark good enough to fire the charge in the cylinder.
