Sears M18

Someone offered me an M18 in a Sears.  Would it be possible to machine a drive pulley for an 1 1/8" crank like the pulley found on the GT1100/1142 to allow use of a thrust bearing and plate?  Thanks.

Anything is possible I suppose, but the cleanest fix is an electric clutch.

True, but I enjoy the simplicity of a manual clutch.

True, but I like being able to start attachments slowly and gently.

I ran into an issue with an M18 like this where the crankshaft wasn't long enough for a transmission pulley and an electric clutch to be used simultaneously for a Wheel Horse.  If you can run bot, great, but don't be surprised you can only run the transmission pulley on this flavor of M18.  I think the odds may be more in your favor for the thrust washer setup.
