Suitcase weights and bracket

Recommended Posts

What would be a good price for a complete set of suitcase weights and the original mounting bracket? Also, how rare are they?

Thanks

WHX??

Whatever the seller is asking!

Mini ones are a hard find unless you got a horseshoe up your rear.

Usually about 125 apiece.

That said you have some to sell I may want dibs...

We'd have to know what you are calling a complete set to valuate.

This is where :text-coolphotos: come in.

I'd agree, they'd be relatively rare - I hated them myself, and we never sold very many (maybe 2 or 3 in the years I worked at the WH Dealer) , preferring to do Loaded tires (Calcium , and later Antiffreeze) or wheel weights, both of which were a cheaper option than the suitcase weight kit. the weights themselves were often lost/forgotten after so many years when the owner got tired of putting them on and taking them off when he wanted to change implements, etc. so it'd be really rare to come up with a complete original set, IMHO.

Guess I didn’t know WH offered a set. I've never saw one and if I did I don't remember or just thought they were generics.

@Gasaholic any chance you recall what a new set would go for over the counter?

not really sure, but I want to say $499.95 , and that was back in 1988 or 1989 I am thinking.. I just seem to remember the suitcase weights kit cost nearly as much as the snow blade add-on or maybe it was the snow cab? after 25-30 years, memory can be fuzzy - I did not work the sales counter much if at all. I was more the A tech in the shop so stayed pretty busy most of the year... I pretty much only just quoted repair jobs, so parts I knew from memory.. accessories, pricing, and units, not so much.

I do not have a picture of the one the guy is selling, but here is the weights and a bracket off of google images I found. Very similar and he has the complete set. He is asking 400. I think it's fair considering the rarity of the item, but wanted some more insight before I purchase it.

c-series don

That seems to me like it would put a lot of stress on the seat bracket?

Those weights are made by a generic company. I had a set of them from somewhere but they weren't Wheel Horse or Toro branded.

My thoughts too Don.

No idea if that it an orginal WH set Muz but I would be all over that for the coin asking.

Horse shoe aside that puts my 125 way below what I would expect.

I have seen just the weights go for 75 apiece but let's stuff the horse shoe.

Prolly not Squonky  but still less than a Frankie apiece for five... deal.

Problem with weights these days is guys know what they are worth

... flea markets no exception.

Old saying in our camp weight is weight no matter the brand.

i have 2 sets of those weights.  both came with the bervac/bercomac canadian made 2 stage snowblower.  before toro modified their 2 stager to fit the wh tractors, wh dealers would sell the bervac unit if a customer wanted a 2 stager.

I have a full set set of BearCoMac suitcase weights I use on my 310-8. They are easily installed and removed. Lucked out and had a guy with a lot of WH tractors and parts and was selling the whole lot. Paid $100.00 for the complete kit in 2014.

Sears/SearsPartsDirect sold them a while back for $328.00 when they sold WH parts. Somewhere along the line Toro put an end to that.

How different is the mounting bracket with those from the original Wheel Horse OEM one?

When I had my tractors, I opted to use John Deere suitcase weights.  They were easy to come by used and you could still get new ones but costly.  Over time I collected 6 of them and paid anywhere from $35-65 each.  For the hitch, I had a Ruprecht 2 inch receiver hitch (vendor here on RS) and then I had a Heavy Hitch brand box to hold the weights.  You can find them on the internet.  When I had my 5xi with the loader mounted, I would put all 6 weights on the rear hitch and a fifty pound cast iron weight on each rear wheel.  Worked like a charm.  I am guessing I paid $600 for everything over the course of 3 years.
