1990 520h pto / electrical issue

Recommended Posts

OPPOSITE2@AOL.COM

I changed the 9 pin connector because it was falling apart, I did one wire at a time, now when I try to engage the pto to mow the engine will shut off. The pto worked fine prior to replacing the connector. I have the micro switch zip tied closed to make contact so I can mow but the engine will start with the pto engaged.Does anybody have or had the same or similar issues? Thanks for any help.

Also is the gas gauge always reads the amount of fuel in the tank with the key on or off, is there a wiring issue there?

Your gas gauge should only read the fuel level with the key on.

Look at the drawings in this attachment to be sure you have nor crossed some wires at the PTO switch.

Sure is :)

Follow @953 nut’s advice using the wiring diagrams in the demystification guide circuit by circuit and you’ll figure out where the cross is. I found it helpful to tag the wires with numbers that I also put on the wiring diagram the first time I did wiring changes since the colors cannot be trusted! It slowed me down at first, but in the end I believe it saved me time.

Be sure to disconnect the battery if you are letting it sit for a while, as it sounds like something is always drawing power.

Thanks for the replys back, I will use the diagram and hopefully find my issues with the wiring.

I disconnected the battery to check the wiring & the gauge still reads how much fuel it has in the tank, weird, I would think it should read empty.

Unlike many auto fuel gauges, the WH gauge does not return to empty when there is no power. Its not a failing, its a feature! 😁
