2 kohlers I picked up

A guy had these said he couldn't get running, but I don't think his operation to great, I think he was just working them no bench etc. 

Since I'm new to this whole situation, before I mess with them what are the things to NOT do because of hard to find parts if any.

I think the one came off cub. The other one is red so that one good question😅

I see the red one is a K181. Can't tell on the other.

Quote I will check but I'm pretty sure the one he said was off a cub came off a john deere because it has oil sump on bottom. If what I thought those kohler were made for John deere is that correct?

Most parts are readily available, especially aftermarket (except some for the K141,k161)

Because these may have been sitting awhile, spray some oil down the spark plug hole to lube the rings and turn it over as you work on them.

I think Cub also used a oil pan with a lower sump on it.  but JD definitely did.

They did, it looks like an AQS spec K series from a spread frame tractor.

The smaller one he said had no spark🤦🤷 he didn't use a coil when he tried just did points and condenser then tried to start it like you see it
