Warning: Green Slime

Recommended Posts

T-Mo

I saw this on another forum. I have heard this before but I haven't seen any evidence of it until now. Do not use the green slimy stuff in your tires. Here's the result (courtesy of a wfm member).

Luckily he was able to save the rims (somewhat).

All those guys who said "I love this stuff" need to look closely at that photo. Bandaids are no answer to fixing the problem.

Did he ever have these wheels demounted before? I'd be hesitant to blame the Slime product on that level of corrosion w/o knowing what the rims looked like before.

The only time I've ever seen that level of interior wheel corrosion was from Calcium Chloride solution filled tires.

Although it is not out of the realm of possibilities, it seems unlikely to me that Slime's developers didn't consider rim corrosion from their product.

Many things are possible though, so perhaps they missed this little detail.

Steve, Perry,

I thought that too, but these are front tires which usually don't get liquid filled. From the discussion that this has generated on the JD and CC sites, this is common with this product. Recommendation is to use this product with tubes. :thumbs2:

A while back I had discussed my experience with Fix-A-Flat. It completely destroyed my tire, just an ugly mess. Also at my local tire dealer, they have a sign up saying that they will not touch any tire that has this junk in them. I'll tell ya, I will never put that crap in my tires again.

True, Jerry. But these fronts were on a Cub - unless there's a rear mounted attachment, no need to fill the fronts on them, except maybe to help steer when using a snow plow or blower.
