i had a 6 volt battery from interstate explode on a golf cart . lifted me up in the seat. i had installed the batterys, and went to test the cart and kaboom. interstate didn't want to warranty it but i kept pushing. they swore i had it wired wrong and etc. funny thing was, after it exploded, i drove the cart to the back of the house, washed everything with soda water and such. and drove it back to the shed and removed the battery and took it back to them. the cart would not have worked had it been wired wrong.  what i later learned, was the connections can fail between the plate sets internally and when that happens and you put a load on that battery it will arc internally and cause the gas inside to explode. i doubt seriously anything was wrong on your end. it was all in that battery.
