Hello, Can anyone help me with the part number for the Wheel horse 857 ignition swiitch part number and whre I can order a replacement? Thanks

This is the switch to use since it is designed to carry the heavy current of the starter motor directly.

Switches that look similar, but designed for lower current, are not appropriate.

And THAT is why I added a Solenoid to my 854. Same keyswitch, but it does NOT see the high current load as wired originally. NO issues going on 8 years...

Engine wont turn over. battery is new. I get some stray current from the ignition key when in the start poistion according to the multi-meter??

Doub't it's the switch. Probably something going on with the starter gen.

Add a starter solenoid and lighter duty ignition switch along with smaller gauge wires to the switch. This takes the high amperage load off the switch and shifts it to the solenoid.

An existing original switch's life could also be extended by adding a solenoid.

So this is a simplified wiring diagram with the solenoid that someone posted on the forum:

Assuming it’s the original K-181 engine which uses a coil and points as shown here, be sure there is no continuity between the ignition (I) terminal and the ignition switch body or any other terminal when the key is in the OFF position.
