Add a starter solenoid and lighter duty ignition switch along with smaller gauge wires to the switch. This takes the high amperage load off the switch and shifts it to the solenoid. So this is a simplified wiring diagram with the solenoid that someone posted on the forum: Assuming it’s the original K-181 engine which uses a coil and points as shown here, be sure there is no continuity between the ignition (I) terminal and the ignition switch body or any other terminal when the key is in the OFF position.
