Well I got my second Wheelhorse today it was listed as a 1977 B100 hadn't run in 2 years, for $400.

Well I kinda lowballed and offered $150 if they were interested and didn't get other offers. This was without seeing it in person. A couple days go by and they accept the offer. So today after a hour and 40 minute round trip drive I picked it up. He had said one of the axles was starting to come out on him and he thought it was a c-clip. That wasn't a big deal to me for $150. 

 

Got it home and noticed something weird with the one rear tire as in it was crooked. Shame on me for not noticing earlier.. however for $150 I'm still ok with it but looks like I will need a new axle and hub.

Unfortunately I thought it was a 77 which meant it had the 1 1/8 axles but since it is a 74 it has the 1" axles which is ok since I got my 73 12-8 to do all the hard work.

It also came with this 36" rear discharge deck which is pretty much junk other then for a couple parts. And it has the mule drive which isn't to bad other then one pulley bearings are a little loose. So if anybody needs parts off the deck near Goshen IN let me know.

That looks like a 1-1/8" hub placed on a 1" axle!!

Not seeing any cracking around the Unidrive bolts in the last picture - that is a plus....

I believe it is actually reamed out that bad. I don't know how it got that bad without realizing it as it had to be slipping. But I would guess the key sheared and then the hub starting spinning on the axle.

My 3 year old is calling it her tractor now.

Also it looks like the headlight blank is a custom thing.

Yes it definitely is destroyed beyond reasonable repair.

Got the 73 pulled out and parked next to it. 

I believe this B100 has original paint but not 100% positive. It seems like this guy always kept it inside and he said be bought it in 94.. the year I was born haha.

That is kind of what I was thinking especially it being a hydro and not currently running if the hydro wasn't good it could still be fixed up for a decent price.

I finally started working on the B100 some I tried bringing the battery back to life but no luck so will have to get a new one. And I took the hub off the axle... Yeah it's not good. So I wanted some advice here so a "new" axle and hub is probably going to be north of 100 bucks.

So should I get it running tighten down the bolt as much as I can to test the hydro. Because if that isn't good and I bought a new axle and hub it's kinda for nothing as it appears a whole rear end with the hydro can be gotten for around 200-250 bucks.

The other question is the axle housing Ok? Because the hub wore into in about 1/8 inch or so.

The weird thing is the other hub has two clamping bolts..  So not sure why has two different hubs.

Also I did check the diff oil which I believe feeds the hydro as well? And it looks nice and clean.

I do believe this tractor has been kept inside at least for the last 30 years so that at least is going for me.

Someone has already replaced the hub that has 2 bolts.  A-Z Tractor has a repair hub, I wonder if that would be an option in your case?  It would save you from having to open the tranny.

I would probably have to check the diameter of the shaft to see how worn down it is. I imagine those are just for worn out keyways. I think my shaft might be to worn down to use it, but I can check on the diameter.

The shaft doesn’t look too bad from here. A little JB weld or similar, and some sanding would get it back to good enough to function.

 

As for the hub, you could rebore it smooth, then use a piece of copper pipe as a sleeve to fill the gap, then once set onto the shaft, cross drill through the hub, through the shaft, and out the other side, and run a grade 5 bolt all the way through.

I like it. The blank, and the entire machine. Just something about that front end style speaks to me.

That is a idea, but it's quite a bit of work for it not to be done right. Would save some money though. I can't find my caliper right now so I haven't been able to check on the diameter of the shaft yet.

I ran a caliper on the axle and it's not too bad worst of it is only a couple thousandths off. So I might be able to get away with a-z clamp style hub. But I think I am going to get it running first  and see how the motor is running see how the hydro is working using the set screw to hold the hub as best as I can to test it. 

So I ordered a 22nf battery battery at advanced auto and I will have to wait until next week to get it so will get the carb cleaned out and get it ready to get it running.

If everything works well :handgestures-fingerscrossed: then I will take the transmission off and apart and see if I can get replacement axle and hub and do the bearings and seals while I am in there. I thought about restoring the whole tractor, but it's kinda got a decent patina going on. And it's got Wheelhorse brand front tires on it and I have Wheelhorse brand rear tires from my 73 Wheelhorse that are 23x8.5 to replace the 22x7.5 that are on it. So I think I should keep it as is, that said what do you guys recommend for putting on the paint to shine it up. Ok

Cleaned up the carb which was actually pretty clean, the bowl was empty so it cleaned up nice and also got the tractor cleaned up some.

Replaced choke cable, ignition switch, new fuel filter added fuel, tightened down the set screw on the hub. And picking up a new battery tomorrow. I'm thinking it will fire right up and then I will get the hydro tested out. If that tests out good then it's going to get disassembled and get the axle and hub replaced.

Got her running and got the hydro tested out spun both tires on concrete. So it's time to take the transmission apart now.

Well... The other axle and hub are trash as well...:angry-banghead:

So now either I gotta get two axles and hubs or see if someone has a transmission that this sunstand fits too that has good axles and hubs. Maybe even could get one with 1 1/8" axles. 

Also the axles have a fair bit of play side to side and actually the other axle will push out when you push in one side. It's probably almost 1/4" of play so not sure what is the problem with that. 

Did get the transmission degreased to take apart probably tomorrow.
