Engine vibration caused by PTO pulley

Recommended Posts

Hello I've chased down the cause of my vibration I have I hope.   Here's what I found. There is a difference of .035 on the outermost edge of the pulley .000 being 180 degrees on the opposite side .  And .015 closer to the center of the pulley ..000 being 180 degrees on the opposite side.   The shaft coming out of the engine shows .000 all the way around. It doesn't seem like a lot but it is very visible when running even at just an idle.   Any suggestions on how to fix this issue.   New pulley perhaps? All measurements were made using a dial indicator.  I hope my explanation makes sense. Thanks in advance.                 I should add the movement is on the face of the pulley not on the edges.

Moe - that is a lot!! You should be able to see the "rise and fall" or as localy called "potato chip" at idle..... time for a better one..

@moe1965  agree with @ri702bill  on picking up a better one , also a good opportunity to , replace the outer bearing with new and re grease the inner needle bearing with hi temp lucas grease , do not over grease that , it will sling onto pulley face . might also detail in the related lever set up , typically very sloppy , firm up with added washers and lubricant , can work with smooth . solid , ease , only a suggestion ,Pete.

Honestly thats not that bad, have you tried to remove it...see if theres still a vibration?  The pulley is small, not alot of mass, it really shouldn't cause any vibrations, I ran one with a big chunk busted out of the pulley and didn't feel any different
