Well I’ve already loosened the aluminum plate and wiggled it a bit…

do you think I messed up?

I guess it would need to be retightened to a specific spec ?

I just turned the crank over by hand and it has no compression !

I guess I’ve done all this for nothing …

Does anybody know if the bolts for the aluminum plate have a torque rating ?

I was gonna reattach the stator to keep it from dangling…

Torque specs will be in the first few pages of the Kohler engine manual.

With the head off I'd hope there's no compression!!

Ain’t got one… and I appreciate you attaching it.

But… the thing is when I download these attachments on my iPhone I don’t know where they go to look at.

Another member is gonna email me the service manual . I will then try to print it.

Definitely had a blown head gasket.  Are the cylinder walls smooth.

What is a good safe way to separate the oil pan from the crank case?

i dont torque anything! i just do a little bit past snug. also turn it so the piston is as far down as it goes. and run your finger nail all around to see if it catches on anything

I used an old cheap wood chisel.

Same way I separate the case halves of a transmission.

Getting more into engines transmissions and other things that require appropriate clamping strength you'll want to get an inexpensive torque wrench and learn to use it correctly.

I got it, printed it, sleeved it, and it was too thick for my binder…😆

Which way did you say that Kohler turned from the flywheel side ?

You can borrow a torque wrench from Advance Auto or many other auto parts stores. Proper torque is very important to ensure that your engine won't fail.
