@jay in nc a few pictures will definitely help with the identity. Most can be identified by the experts here relatively quickly, regardless of the identity plate. These guys are good!!!

Jay….. I have seen your creations. It could be a combination of like 5 different machines after you and Wallfish work on them at the big show. I look forward to just sitting there and watching you boys wrench!

I haven't seen any difference In the the 300 and 400 metal fender pans. My 520-H and 312-8 look the same

Is there a steel plate or evidence that one had been bolted to the frame that the M-Twin engine bolts to?

As @Lee1977 was saying, if you remove the decals the sheet metal parts from a 300 model and 400 model are interchangeable.

I checked the list I have and the only 418-8 was made in 1987. l also checked Parttree part list and the list in Redsquare only 418-8 built in 1987.

Model no. 31-18K801 1987.

They did not make a 418-8 in 1988, it may have been bought in 1988

All the other 418's  made in 1987 were  a 418-A and a 418-C.

In in 1988 and 1989 they made 518-H

The only other 18 HP I could fine was the GT 1800 in 1984. GT 1848 in 1982 and 1983 all Briggs engines.
