d-200 is free wheeling

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I picked up a badly decomposing d-200 hoping to revive it.The motor had a stuck exhaust valve but after freeing it up it runs great.I am stumped as to why it is free wheeling with the relief valve in the closed position.Any suggestions as to the problem?

Have you checked the oil level and what does it look like.

An oil change and especially a filter change is a basic place to start.

The filter is NAPA 1410 or WIX 51410

If your oil is red it has transmission fluid in it, so continue to use that.

If it is brown it is 30 wt motor oil.

if its black try to go by what it smells like.  You don't want to mix the two.

One of the 1st thing to check is does the hydraulic lift work? If so, that confirms the Sundstrand Hydro charge pump is working.

Hello,

The oil level was clear but low so I added a pint or so of 10-30.The 3-pt.arms will lift and lower me fast.I can push the tractor easily with one hand with the bypass screw closed. It feels like there is no resistance what so ever thru the system.

Download the sunstrand manual here

I am betting on sheared key in transaxle ...

Thanks pfrederi, great manual! I think you are right on about a sheared key---looks like a complete tear down of the trans axle in order to find out for sure or is there any tests i can make without a tear down?. I'll let you know what i find.

Thanks again! JSW

:WRS:

Begin with the axle to hub keyways. Mark the end of the axle and the hub on each side with chalk, paint or whatever you have on hand. Start the engine, put it in gear for a few seconds and then take a look at the marks you made. If a key is broken the line will no longer be aligned.
