Snowthrower chain lube.. What to use?

Recommended Posts

I picked up a used single stage that has been sitting.  The auger spins, bit things need a little TLC.

What chain lube have you found to work best, and last longest?

Any lube needed on the bearings? Or just replace if stiff?

Thanks!

If there's any doubt at all about the chain, replace it. Not that expensive. Around $20 for 10 feet at TSC...

Definitely will if I have any concerns.... Hope to get it inside this week and give it a look... at first glance, it seemed ok, just a little stiff, but no stuck links, and no excessive rust!

I'm sure you're already aware, but if all the single stage throwers are the same, check your chain tensioner sprocket down toward the bottom of the housing....if it has been adjusted to the tightest setting already, you may want to just replace the chain based on how much it has stretched.  I had planned on doing mine this winter but we had enough snow to use it before I got around to it, and I went over a small bump at the end of my driveway and it was just enough to pop the chain right off the sprockets and get completely chewed up between the auger and housing.

i use bar and chain lube. anything is better than nothing. i lube mine generously and let the blower sit on a piece of cardboard. naturally it drips, when that piece of cardboard is ready for disposal i burn it.  regards  mike in mass.

Be careful using some of those China built chains - they do not fit the sprockets correctly and can wear the teeth out in a hurry , not to mention they can get pretty loud . I think McMaster and other places carry good quality US made chain in bulk rolls. Same with sprockets..btw .

This cab has had a wooden frame built and Plexiglas cut and installed.  The Plexiglas is in good condition on all 4 windows.  The red canvas material and the zippers look to be in good/very good condition and in working order.  The white fiberglass roof is completely intact and solid, the white paint also looks good.  I have had cab was in storage for quite a while and have finally decided to move it out to someone that wants one.  Thanks for looking, feel free to ask me any questions.

Looking to sell my 2 stage snow blower.   I have owned it for the last 5 years and it works awesome on my 520.   I changed the bearings in the front, a new wear block for the chain and a new belt.   I haven't used in the last two years and its taking up space in my barn.  I have a new toy to plow my driveway with now.   All the brackets, extensions and tubes included to make it work.

Sorry to those of you who may already seen this - first interested buyer backed on on sale, hence the reason for the repost.

Pretty rare find, looks like only somewhere between 3 & 5 of these units have shown up on the site. It's especially unusual to have located it here in Denver where not a lot of horses are to be found (WH Red ones at least  ).

Everything turns smooth and auger has little wear and none of the usual dings or bends from use on a stone driveway.

I will be at the show in PA from the 22nd to 24th and would be glad to deliver it there or anywhere along my planned route there and back.
      - see my hauling post for details -
Finally, I would be open to making a trade for this if someone has a 40" grader blade in good condition they'd be willing to swap straight up.

      Thanks for looking!
