Stormin 9,975 #1 Posted July 25, 2017 Took the C-81 and finger bar, (that's what we call a sickle bar over here) to a local garden centre. Place has been near derelict for some time and has now got new owners. I did a deal with the new owner. I'd clear an overgrown area in return for firewood. The uncut patches have sleepers and other heavy things in and I was told to no bother about them. 17
AMC RULES 36,945 #2 Posted July 25, 2017 Nice ... made short work of a nasty job.
tunahead72 2,341 #3 Posted July 25, 2017 Nice gig Stormin, and well done! I always feel like I'm learning another language when I read a post from you guys on the other side. I'm relieved that a "finger bar" fits well in a family-friendly forum like RedSquare, but what does a "sleeper" mean to you?

Stormin 9,975 #5 Posted July 25, 2017 (edited) They are old wooden railway sleepers. They were used to make an edging round where plants etc were on display. As to being a nasty job, the only thing nasty was the cleggs. Like horse flies with a nasty bite. Edited July 25, 2017 by Stormin

Is that them on the right side of your second photo? Nice tractor too, by the way.
Stormin 9,975 #8 Posted July 25, 2017 That's some of them. They'd make good firewood. Only trouble as such, they are heavily impregnated with tar.
KC9KAS 4,741 #9 Posted July 25, 2017 "Finger bar"! I would think it would be a "Loss of Finger Bar" if one is not careful! Looks like you and your machine did a fine job!

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,051 #11 Posted July 25, 2017 @Stormin Nice tractor and great work. This side of the pond sleepers are called railroad ties ( at least in my neck of the woods ). I don't think I would want to use them as firewood. They would create some bad smoke.
