No luck yet with the flintlock.  Plenty of doe, but Owen is holding out for a buck.

We are getting some quality time together in the tent.  Hoping the other three Grandsons follow Owens lead, and catch the hunting bug.

Ed,

Momma let you use the camera tripod for hunting season?  Cant be that hard to hold that short flintlock up for Owen.  LOL!!  Good luck on him getting his buck!

Nah, that's my tripod Brandon.  It does more than steady the shot. Owen likes to take a few naps while in the stand so with the rifle on the tripod, he knows where it is when I wake him.  Also keeps from spilling the primer power from the pan.

No buck yet.  It is getting tougher to stay on stand with these temps in the 20s.

Tooo cold to work in the barn, so I caught up on my taxidermy work.  Got the cape back on the buck this  week.

From what I can tell from the old rifle...was most likely dated about 1840's....probably belonged the 2nd generation parent or his son.  There is an engraving on the barrel with my last name...faint but legible....the GIT are the initials of my Great Uncle George Irvin Troutman....a 5th generation American...who was mustard gassed in WW1 and was awarded the Purple Heart.  My dad just handed the rifle to me last year....  Dad is 92 this year.....

Thanks for sharing  Bob, what a great story and a priceless piece of history.

Just one more question.. I am friends with a large Trout family from Felton, Pa now,  and I  grew up In the 40s and 50s in southern Somerset Co,Pa. with many Troutman families.   Do you know if  your family is related to either of these families ?

I hail from Bedford County Ed...right next to Somerset...but my grandfather was from Indiana County.  He had a good many brothers and sisters but I don't know where they all ended up.  Dad would not know (too old) but maybe Mom would....if there was any possibility I would have to say the Somerset clan might me related to me....
