1949 Chevy Pick Up... New Find

Recommended Posts

stevebo

A couple of you wanted to see my first car I got when I was 15 (I am 41 now)... I did not have any recent pics until today. I did some heavy duty spring cleaning in the garage this morning and had it out for a little ride. I had the truck out too so thought a few pics were in order...

Its about friggin time! I gotta hand it to you Steve for keeping that car for so long and in such mint shape. I've owned so many muscle cars I should have kept it ain't even funny. Among the Dodge's were two 69 Dodge Chargers, both with built 440's and one was a mint R/T with a six pack on top of its 440. We won't even get into the Chevy and the Fords I've owned. I'm such a fool for not keeping at least one of them...

My mom had a 76 Dart that looked just like that except it has the slant-six stump puller engine. It was a total dog off the line. It was recalled several times for this and nothing fixed it so they gave up. My mom ordered a new car and while we were waiting for it I decided to have a crack at it. I was in college and took the carb apart but I lost the accelerator pump weight. I made a new one out of a nail and put it back together. Car ran like a champ after that. It used to eat ballast resistors too. About 6 a year.

So you are first in line on the Dart...

Craig claims to be first in line on the Senior.

Matt claims to be first in line on a particular RJ

I'm still tryin to decide what I want to claim dibs on...

Nice ride dude! I never saw it out from under the cover. Very sweet. Yesterday was a great day to play with the cars. Coincidentally, I took the '55 out in the afternoon too. Itchin' for a car shown actually.

I passed up on a Dart when I was 17.....still regretting it. I had another car apart @ the time, and my father would have had a sh*t hemorrhage. Price was right and all. :banghead:

Guess I learned then...it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Ohh the one that got away... :eusa-think:

@Will- Yes that is on the distant radar to restore the Chevelle or (mouse house) at this point.

I was able to pick away a little more on this project. Got most of the wiring in place and installed the radiator support, radiator and front grill. It was MUCH easier coming apart :banghead: . I am waiting for the rebuilt gauges to come in the mail and then I can start to wire them up. Little by little..... Still hoping to finish this by the Kent show..... :handgestures-fingerscrossed: Not sure if I mentioned that Fireman stopped by and helped out with the wiring... Thanks again Jeff !!

Will-

Waiting on some parts. Had to get new shifter and shifter box as mine was not working properly. I just got the electric fan this afternoon and have not even opened the box as of yet. Got the upper and lower radiator hoses this week too. Last Friday I took a little trip down PA way to pick up something else in the same era via 1952. I am giving it a little face lift. Will post some pics soon.

This is a 1952 Wolverine Wagemaker 14 ft boat. It spent most of it's life on lake Michigan then the original owner's nephew brought it back to the Scranton PA area where he used it for a few years then sold it to his neighbor who basically stored it in his garage for 10 years and never took it out. It came with the original 25hp Johnson with a rare electric start motor that runs great but needed the typical water pump, coils, condensor, carb clean etc.

I have to thank my pal Kenb for "locating" this one for me. He was going to buy it but knew I was interested so we worked out a deal where I bought this one and he bought my Duratec. Ken also helped get this motor running and did the water pump. He gave me some tips on what paint to use etc. You are the man Ken!
