wallfish 17,849 #2 Posted September 5, 2022 Does the new switch have an "I" terminal on it ? I would be for Ignition If it's designed for a magneto ignition it is grounding that terminal you have going to the coil. and would have a M on the terminal. The switch should have ID letters on the back next to the terminals

You need a battery ignition switch with an I on it.

Get a switch intended for battery ignition A- Accesories (lights and such) R-Regulator/rectifier I- Ignition (to the + side of the coil) B-Battery ( wire from the + hot side of the solenoid) S- Start (small post on the solenoid ) Had it been the other way around with battery ignition switch on a magneto engine with 12v supplied to a magneto coil -- it would let the magic smoke out of the coil. No harm on yours and a valuable lesson with something learned. (Switches are not all the same and different applications require different switches) Edited September 5, 2022 by wallfish
953 nut 59,224 #9 Posted September 6, 2022 A 103-990 switch should get you back in business. This diagram may be helpful.
