bo dawg 516 #1 Posted July 12, 2009 I just bought the OEM drive belt for my tractor which is PN #7478. Doesn't matter if its ingaged or not you can operate it. Is there a way to adjust ?
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted July 12, 2009 Do you have the belt guard installed and is it in good condition? (all of the little belt guide tabs are still welded to the back side of the guard and not bent) The belt should have a good bit of slack when the release handle ("parking brake") is pulled up and should actually be pushed out of the engine pulley enough to slip there - if everything else is correct. Jim_M 179 #3 Posted July 12, 2009 Loosen the idler pulley and let it slide down the slot in the parking brake handle.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #4 Posted July 12, 2009 Jim: I think he's saying that the tractor will still move whether the release lever is down (operate) or up (release/park). It's been a while since I messed with one, but doesn't moving the idler pulley closer to the bottom make the belt tighter? It also sounds like the parking pawl is broke, which doesn't surprise me. :thumbs2:
Jim_M 179 #5 Posted July 12, 2009 TT, You're right. I guess I wasn't very awake when I typed that. I should have said, slide the idler up to make the belt looser. The way I took it, the belt is tight and won't release when the brake is pulled up. Jim
bo dawg 516 #6 Posted July 12, 2009 Sorry guys, late night and over slept this morning But yes you're correct TT, I think all the tabs seem to be there and alright. I really didn't in spect it much before putting it on. The idler lever/brake does pull up all the way like it should but still the belt doesn't have a lot of slack, some but not enough. The rear pully had some surface rust, maybe I should have cleaned it off but still not enough slack to make a difference probably.
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #7 Posted July 20, 2009 Maybe the idler was replaced at some point with a larger one? :thumbs2:
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #8 Posted July 20, 2009 By the way - there are a couple of points in the e-brake lever assembly you should spot-grease since they are metal on metal.
