Stigian 1,234 #1 Posted July 11, 2009 Ebay strikes again Better start with a few photo's as I know how much you guy's like your pics : ) Quite low hours on the clock! With quite a posh dashboard for someone who is more used to a more basic Raider 10 dash! Another first for me.... No gear stick's but a strange forward and reverse lever thingy! Sexy or what.. 18hp of throbbing Onan muscle But the best part for me is one of these rams
whfan74 2,015 #2 Posted July 11, 2009 Congrats Ian!!!! That is going to make you one nice worker! Can't wait to see video of this one working around your place!
Stigian 1,234 #3 Posted July 11, 2009 As is the way with things bought "blind" on ebay the 518-H has a few faults. A bit of rust on the cutting deck but no holes. I guess the round curving bits that should be behind the blade are there for a purpose, how much of a difference would it make if I removed whats left of them? Me thinks the drive belt should not be touching here!! The engine runs great, it's really smoooth and has loads of power... It's starting it is the noisy bit.. Some investigation was needed and soon showed up rather worn ring gear!! At least the starter motor only has minimal chewing of the teeth. This cooling fan looks like it is missing a few blades, but I have another fan from something else that can be made to fit for now.. As you all know these ebay bargains all come with loads of old grass and dirt thrown in for free, so off came a few panels for a good clean up. Good stuff elbow grease, it works quite well
TJ 171 #4 Posted July 11, 2009 Nothing you can't handle. Looks good. :thumbs2:
Stigian 1,234 #5 Posted July 11, 2009 Some parts just needed a quick wipe over to make them good. Others were a bit too rusty for an old T-shirt and some engine de-greaser to work it's magic. So in the E-tank they go.. Bubbling curry soup anyone? That's all for now folks, the belt guards and foot plate have been painted and are waiting to go back on.. A job for next week.. Rollerman 290 #6 Posted July 11, 2009 Ian thats a serious worker there....18HP Onan...Eaton 1100 with hyd lift....I have tractor envy now. The PO must of had a lush green lawn of rocks. That deck doesn't look all that bad....if you can hammer out some headlight buckets with scrap....you should be able to fix those deck baffles blindfolded. Looking forward to hearing how you like it once you get to working her. By the way....nice E tank too. :thumbs2:
Kelly 1,028 #7 Posted July 11, 2009 Looks to have the guard setup for a rear leaf blower, nice looking tractor.
Don1977 604 #8 Posted July 11, 2009 It will still mow with out the baffles but it won't mow as clean they help to lift the grass. I need to replace mine and will when I get some sheet metal. Good looking tractor!

Stigian 1,234 #10 Posted July 12, 2009 Afternoon Guy's glad you like my new beast, I quite like it myself The PO must of had a lush green lawn of rocks. LOL, yeah it is a bit battered Stephen, nothing a bit of time and steel won't solve. Looks to have the guard setup for a rear leaf blower, nice looking tractor. Your right Kelly it has the guard but no blower. Speaking of the guard, the E-tank found a few very rusty pits and decided to make a few holes... Good job I like welding It will still mow with out the baffles but it won't mow as clean they help to lift the grass. Maybe that's why on the only time i tried to cut grass with it, it struggled quite a bit. Id better get it sorted.. ian your right we love your vids and pics and even the story behind your projects, keep up the good work Thank you Sir, don't worry the good work will keep on coming. One last pic for this update, the belt cover and foot plates painted and ready to go on.

truckin88 104 #15 Posted July 13, 2009 nice machine, looks like you are on your way, I thought I had read that the 518 was a non serviceable tranny, guess that post was wrong, that is an early 518, really nice.
Stigian 1,234 #16 Posted July 26, 2009 Hi Guy's just a small update for you. The body panels have been painted and bolted back on apart from the extra belt guard which is still awaiting a bit of welding to patch up the holes. No rush for that though, it's a do it when I feel like it kinda job Not wanting to chew up the teeth on the flywheel any more than they are already I have not used this beast as much as I would like too, but a bit of grass cutting and playing with the hydraulics has been happening. Snowplow thingy up, loads of ground clearance! Snowplow thingy down, loads of ground clearance under the front wheels And the harrow thingy of course.. In other news and old fan was found. Nigel the master metal polisher drilled the hole. And with the aid of a longer bolt the fan moves onto it's new home. That should help with cooling until I get the correct fan thingy for it

TJ 171 #18 Posted July 26, 2009 HOW DARE YOU. My other hobby is repairing, and restoring old household fans. It breaks my heart to think that you, of all people, would so wantonly destroy an artifact of the early 21st century. And, for what purpose, so you can ride your "Wheelie Horsie" thing around your yard? I tell you sir, you have not heard the last of this; my friends at the "Household Fan Forum" will exact justice. You may want to consider moving to a bigger island, or at least changing your Email address. Tom
