Hmmm...... interesting. I take it that you have the tractor and have verified that it is a Kohler and that 1-3745 is the model number on the tractor. According to Toro, and they've been wrong before, the only 7hp Kohler with a recoil start was the 1976 B-60, model numbers 61-07K801 and 61-07K802. If you look in the picture gallery in this forum there are pictures of both the 1969 Workhorse 700 and the 1976 B-60 and neither really look like your new tractor. :thumbs2: Does anyone recognize what model had those hood decals? Try posting all of the engine numbers and maybe we can figure out what tractor that engine should be on.......

TT

The hood decals are 1970-72 and are not original to that tractor. There's no doubt that the original Tecumseh died and was replaced by the Kohler. :thumbs2: If the engine looks to be Wheel Horse red it could be off of a 704, 706, (highly unlikely) or a B-60 but could also be off of a Troy-Bilt tiller. (similar color) As Buzz has stated, the numbers will be a great help.

I'm betting that with closer inspection you'd find this tractor has had more than a few alterations - both cosmetic and mechanical.

OK...here is some new info !!!

Kohler

model number k161T

spec# 281271J

ser# 9584011

motor block red.....cover purpleish red.....recoil red

the block has to broken bolts left in it where the gen/starter bracket once was

Came back from the lake county indiana steam show today..pics later, but had a 700 there and all was same including deck, but the motor and decals....so my guess is just that also......

According to Kohler that spec # was built for a Gardenway (Troy-Bilt) tiller.

The model # of K161T was originally a retractable (recoil) start. That's what the "T" stands for. It is possible that someone mounted a starter/gen on it at some point but the ignition would have to be switched and then switched back to make it a recoil start again.. I think it's pretty unlikely anyone would do that. The broken bolts in the block were more than likely from something used with the original tiller set up.
