520-H Coming together - sneak peak

Well, The 520-H I got a while ago, is finally coming together. If you remember I bought it with a plow, and nice 48" deck for $820. He said it burnt oil, but it did not, it actually had a leak at the bearing plate gasket. Well this was a learning experience, and without cummins power generation tech support, partstree and onanparts.com it would have been horrible. If you are going to replace this gasket, you are going to need brake parts cleaner to clean everything, a new crankshaft shim and crankshaft shim thrust washer (the old ones will be beat), and a new rear main seal. The tools you will need are a pulley puller(for the drive pulley rent for free at AZ or Advanced) and torque wrench, when torqueing the plate down do a star pattern. You can pound the old rear main seal out with a large flat head, and a hammer, it is a combo seal and bushing and is a pain in the A** to install, CPG tech support gave me an awesome tip, freezer for 20 minutes, shrinks it enough, then use a small 2x4 to press it in. The gasket is easy just make sure your holes are lined up, torque it down. This is a PITA job, but not a hard one. When done the crank shaft should turn by hand once the drive pulley is placed on. This is a drain the oil before starting, fill when done job. Oh and no silicone, per Cummins, I went through a gasket set and a RMS becasue I used it. Also while here change the dipstick/oil fill tube seal, new design is much better, make sure your stick is out when installing.

So that got done, then I decided to paint the side panels (belt and hose cover), get new 23x10.50 ags, new headlight bezels, new arnold seat (which is really a michigan seat - Thanks Stevebo for the suggestion), new drive and pto belt while I was in there, paint the wheels, new seat gas spring, go through the electrical with dielectic. Get a new horse emblem for the flywheel cover since mine fell off in transport.

It has new battery, new napa filters, new fuel filter, new fluids, and new sparks. I cleaned, greased and lubed everything (got the tranny disengage working perfectly after removing loads of caked grass and adding some 3 in 1).

Here she is after her first test run (used cell for the pic, I was excited)

That is a heck of a nice tractor for the price. Glad everything worked out without needing an engine overhaul :thumbs2:

Tractor looks nice. Thanks for the info on the seal. It will be good for future reference.

Is that the C-120 8 in the background cutting some grass?

yes the wife is hard at work on the C-120 8, we have a lot of land, so we need these machines. The C-120 is awesome, I need to adjsut the brakeband, and go through it a bit, but she is a work horse, once the 520-H is mowing ready the 120 will be coming in.

A C-141 just popped up forsale beggin me to buy it....she will kill me...

Okay now that you did all that work, I will trade the 416 for it... Or we can just do a pull off and winner takes all. :thumbs2:

ha thanks steve. I will take pics of those tires soon, I have just been wrapped up in this.

Steve were you able to retain the seat sliders on your 520, I was, but I had to drill and tap the rear holes of the new seat, the front wholes were perfect.

Will,

I did not use the sliders as that set up sits me up too high on the tractor. I just went with the old style set up.

as you can see in the pic the wife likes to mow, so the sliders are a benefit to her, she has little legs. More pics after the deck and pto clutch and bell are on tomorrow.

Wedding on the island tonight, with an open bar, so the tractor work gets a break tonight.
