Volvoman 1 #1 Posted July 9, 2009 Not much experience with electrical issues, so steer me in the correct direction please. My B-100 8 spd tractor K241 engine is not charging. Here is what I have tried: pulled the 3 wire connector from the backside of voltage regulator....set VOM to AC....inserted + probe into one stator lead..... - probe to ground.....started engine.....VOM readout of 7.5 VAC....switched + probe to other stator lead and got a VOM readout of 8.25 VAC. Would these readings indicate a faulty stator, as I thought each reading should be 27 VAC or a tad more? Vvm.
Volvoman 1 #2 Posted July 9, 2009 Update: after reading more technical info on the web, I tried this check of the stator: using VOM, I inserted the (+) probe into one lead from the stator and inserted the (-) lead into the other lead. Started engine and now got a reading of 34+ VAC running full throttle. The process I used as described in my original post may not have been the correct one. In any case, perhaps the stator is okay?? If so, is R-R the next suspect?
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #3 Posted July 9, 2009 Sounds like the stator is working and if you're getting the readings at the rectifier then the wires are good. I would suspect that you would need to hook up the rectifier and check the voltage coming out of it. Be sure that the rectifier has a good ground.
WHC-125 4 #4 Posted July 9, 2009 The ignition switch maybe be bad as well because that happened to me on my C-
Volvoman 1 #5 Posted July 9, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions. I followed these steps with engine off: first, checked battery and verified that it was supplying 12+v to the switch. second, cleaned all switch terminals. third, confirmed that 12v was leaving switch and reaching rectifier-regulator third post (to check integrity of wire). fourth, disconnected 3rd post wire from r-r and checked voltage with engine running....but found none. Based on these steps, I'm leaning in the direction that the rectifier-regulator is non-functional. Any steps that I am missing?? Vvm
Volvoman 1 #6 Posted July 21, 2009 Mystery solved. Upon replacing the rectifier-regulator, charging system is up and working again as new. vvm.
