dgoyette 12 #1 Posted July 9, 2009 Does anyone know if I should have an auxillary cooling fan mounted around the transmission? In looking at the schematics I see a cooling fan. The pump itself is cooled by the engine fan but it appears there may be a second cooling fan. It looks like it is wired to the transmission temp gauge and uses a thermostat to turn on and off. I do not see a fan in the hydro area which would lead me to believe I do not have one If it originaly came with one I would like to wire one up ASAP as I know heat kills hydros. Thanks in advance for any insight.
Jim_M 179 #2 Posted July 9, 2009 That was part of a kit that was installed on the later model D series tractors. I'm not sure if it was an option or standard equipment on later models. All of my D's are earlier models and don't have it. If you have a working trans. temp. gauge and keep an eye on it, you'll be fine without the auxillary fan. bitten 134 #3 Posted July 9, 2009 I think it was an option for a loader. I have a 79' and it didnt come with one. I would like to add one one of these days as I'm sure it would help.
linen beige 15 #4 Posted July 9, 2009 My 1980 D-160 doesn't have one, but I'll probably add one if I ever restore it.
Rideawaysenior 28 #5 Posted July 9, 2009 It was an option for the D160 and D180 however standard I believe on the D200. I think it would be a great benefit for any hydro as it would only protect the pump from running too hot. The fan was no more then a 12v fan with a thermostat on the pump temp sending unit. dgoyette 12 #6 Posted July 9, 2009 Thanks very much for the replies. I may add one later. Curently I am not running it long or too hard so there is no hurry I guess. I would agree that it can only help as long as it only comes on when needed via thermostat. Thanks!
