John2189 545 #1 Posted July 31, 2022 Anyone know the size of the bushing for the steering shaft right before the gear? Assuming there is one. Mine is very loose and worn out
Lee1977 7,221 #2 Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) They never had a bushing for the end of the steering column. I don't have a blacl hood but they are simular to the 300 and 400 series. Edited July 31, 2022 by Lee1977

Lee1977 7,221 #4 Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) It may not be your problem we used a two bolt flange bearing on the upper column of 300 400 series to fix the steering column. I used a Toro 6472 bearing as that is what I had, some use a two flangr ball bearing. That has been the fix for most of us. Lee1977 7,221 #5 Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) If there is a lot of lose motion between steering shaft and the fan gear the fan gear shaft may need to be shimed. There is a cotter pin holding the fan gear shaft and it usually gets bent loosing the gear. Edited July 31, 2022 by Lee1977
pacer 3,177 #6 Posted July 31, 2022 If its where I think you are describing? you can bore/drill it out to accept a bronze or steel bushing.

Yes there is a lot of play where the shaft goes through. I don’t want it to strip the gears
