Nice Cut...

Recommended Posts

I have been experimenting for a couple of years to get my 69 Charger's deck to cut higher.

My move to Northern VA forced me to revisit the issue because apparently Zoysia needs at least a 3" cut. If you cut below that you get all kinds of yellow thatch and stuff (the thatch will be a subject of further experiments).

Anyway, finally I am getting a perfect cut for this grass. When I cut it, it looks like a green carpet which is exactly how Zoysia is supposed to look.

I have to say it sure looks pretty: :thumbs2:

What I did was to put bigger wheels on the deck. That caused the front of the deck to be too low. I then added shims to the long narrow leveler tongue (this is the old style deck) until I got the front where it should be. That got me to 3 inches, which is what i was shooting for. And of course I can adjust it lower if need be.

See below (the shims are bolted to the tongue, pushing down on the rod below) for where they were added, though this photo was from before the mods. Normally the tongue rests directly on the rod (I have seen some decks that had multiple holes for the rod). What I did was to bolt a 3x1" piece of 3/4 thick wood covered with a piece metal to the bottom of the tongue. This has the affect of lifting the front up.

Yup, it is a pretty site :ychain:

Bo,

I'll try and snap a picture tomorrow, but may not get the chance.

I did edit my original post to be clearer so read it again and maybe it will be clearer!

cheers
