Onan p216

I have a Onan p216 on a Miller bobcat. It is not charging the battery. Checked voltage at the regulator, not getting any. I guess it is the alternator. Any advise on how to do this would be appreciated.
from what I see it has a stator. Where is it located ? How’s difficult is it to replace?

thanks,
steve

With the engine running at full throttle, you should measure around 30 volts AC on the two outside lugs.  If you do, the stator is OK.

Make sure the reg/rec is grounded to the tins.

I took the two outside leads off the regulator. With engine running I got no voltage from either lead or both leads.

Here is the Onan Service Manual, see page 8-5 for testing.  Be sure you have the voltmeter set on AC volts, not DC and connected to the two leads coming up from the stator.

This site will have some photos to help you understand the stator removal.

I was testing on dcv. After switching to acv I’m getting voltage in the 40’s. So it must be the voltage regulator.

thanks for everyone’s help
