Jeff-C175 7,195 #1 Posted July 11, 2022 (edited) Anybody know anything about this? The Treasurer planted a couple varieties of Phlox a few years ago. There's a dark purple, which is tall, and a medium pink which is shorter (and has spread like crazy!). And this year, alongside the pink one, a brand new color appeared! It's tall like the purple, but a MUCH lighter pink than the other one. In fact, it almost seems the 'reverse' colors. Could this be a hybrid of the two somehow? Do Phlox do that? I don't have pics of the Hibiscus, but she's got some of the 'pie plate' Hibiscus in the front yard. The flowers are Crimson Red. Last year or the year before, some new plants sprouted and they are very light pink with red centers. Same question... do Hibiscus hybridize themselves? Too bad we have to fence them in to keep the Deer from eating them! Really takes away from beautiful flowers... but it's either that, or nothing! Jeff-C175 7,195 #5 Posted July 15, 2022 The Hibiscus has bloomed, here is a pic of the original red and the one that showed up a couple years ago. These plants readily reseed themselves with new plants popping up regularly. I think that somehow pollen from someone else's different color plant cross-pollinated the red and the pink/white/red center is the result. I have them sitting together... and haven't had any "adverse effects" ...except for the occasional arguments when they don't think I can hear...
