kpinnc 10,869 #26 Posted August 1, 2012 I mow with my 310-8 and 48SD deck fairly often, and it does a great job. You can tell the engine gets a workout in the thicker grass, but it can handle it. One thing no one has mentioned with the differeing opinions is the condition of your 10hp Kohler. If you have good compression, then the 10hp is strong enough to handle it. If your engine's compression is getting lower due to age and wear, it's gonna work much harder. I rebuilt my Magnum 10 about 13 years ago, and have kept the maintainence up on it ever since. The difference in the torque on that engine is amazing. Before that the 37SD deck would almost choke it down just engaging the PTO. And I agree with Karl- I'll trade you a good 42SD or RD for that 48... :ychain:
Fordiesel69 226 #27 Posted August 1, 2012 I don;t know how anyone is using a 48" on a 10HP. I run a 42" on a fresh 0.10 bored 10HP and am into the governor all the time in 2nd gear. Grass is heavy. A kohler M12 I tried a 48" deck on it and it was terrible.
