henryhpsd 127 #1 Posted June 10, 2022 Sirs, I have the 316-8 running again and noticed the battery wasnt charging. As soon as i move wire nr 1... the engine goes "surging" ? That wire is attached close to the airfilter on the regulator (yellow) It goes up and down in rpms trying to find a sweet spot and dies. I didnt measure any voltages of charging (higher then bat value) while engine is running on any of the 3 inputs on the regulator. So im guessing the regulator is dead ... ? Or possible it is something in the flywheel alternator ? Any advise..as always... is welcomed ! Kind regards, Henry
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,389 #2 Posted June 10, 2022 With the ignition key in the RUN position but the engine not running see if you have battery voltage at the DC+ terminal of the regulator. It is required. The regulator must see battery voltage before it can regulate the charge current. The only other requirement is that the regulator body is grounded but rarely fails. I don't think we have a wiring diagram but this one should be very close
lynnmor 7,704 #3 Posted June 10, 2022 I'm guessing that this is a 16 horsepower Onan, if so download the Onan Service Manual and follow the instructions on page 8-5.
