520hc deck

When I try to engage the pto/deck the engine will die belts in right groove and and not to tight. cleaned out belt gaurds and greased pulley all turn free is there a safety? do I have to  the brake on ?

You've got a bad safety switch.

Likely the seat switch.

You are sitting on it, right?

 

Is this a 'new to you' machine?

Agree with Jeff, likely the safety system.  To rule out things mechanical, remove the belt from the PTO and try again.

Ok the seat safety was by passed before i bought the tractor so no Iam not setting on it but when I was still did the same thing must be a safety some where I guess  I will look at a wiring diagram and check. It does start to spin but only for a second so I think there is a safety some where that that is undone.

Probably a bad connection in there.

 

It appears that the only thing it can really be in this case is the seat switch.

BUT... it's also possible that the PTO switch is not making good contact.  The "OFF" contact may be OK, but the "ON" contact (or wiring) could be cruddy.

yes  I had the cover off by the shifter cleaning and probably messed a switch up I will start from there. thank You.

I'll encourage you to restore the seat safety switch to it correct operation. Just sayin'

Yes that was the issue and has been corrected  everything working properly at this time.
