chipdumper 2 #1 Posted May 10, 2022 From time to time this thing will send out some serious smoke. Then it goes away. Is there a quick & dirty way to check this out? Engine: Briggs & Stratton I/C 10HP Model #256707 Type 0119 01 Code 90021611 Starts up and runs just fine other than the smoke every once and a while. Especially after it sits for a while but I have used it before where evreything is fine and all of a sudden it is go-go-gadget smoke screen.
8ntruck 7,829 #2 Posted May 10, 2022 My thought is that it might have something to do with the crankcase breather. Somebody will be along soon with more ideas. Good bunch of folks here. Chancescare pretty good that if you have broken something, somebody here has fixed whatever you broke and will tell how they fixed it.

squonk 43,781 #4 Posted May 10, 2022 I had a 210-H for 20 years. Great mower! This happened to me once. Float stuck and filled the crankcase with gas. Pull the stick and smell it. If it smellgassy, rebuild the carb and change the oil.
chipdumper 2 #5 Posted May 11, 2022 Thanks for the info! I'll first investigate the breather before getting too invasive. My grass grows very slow so I have some time. I'd rather get my hands dirty first before dropping $500+ on a replacement engine. Other than that, its a nice mower. The 10HP is kinda weak but it does the job.

chipdumper 2 #8 Posted May 12, 2022 Ugh this thing look ugly. Lots of oil everywhere. 925 hours on the clock. Dipstick gasket is blown out. I had a tad too much oil in the sump (looks like it "self drained" any excess). That might explain the oil everywhere and the blue smoke. The breather interior was clean. I cleaned the crap off of the outside of the breather and even tested it and it seems to function as it should. The goofball I bought this off of said he replaced the carburetor assembly (CHICOM copy?) and its probably not adjusted properly. I'll try to follow the manual to tune that up properly when I get new gaskets for this.
chipdumper 2 #9 Posted May 12, 2022 I was checking out the price of a new riding mower and I almost fell out of my chair. No way I can afford to dump $2k+ for a replacement (and thats the big-box store pricing). Nothing else wrong with this 1992 vintage 210-H besides the occasional weak power and smoke screen. Anyone know if it is virtually plug-and-play if I install this Intek 11.5hp 21R807-0072-G1 ($575 shipped)? I'm assuming that all of the B&S in this HP class use the 1" shaft at 3-5/32 long with a 1/4" keyway. The parts depot's online show that the 217907-3025 as a replacement which has been superseded by the 21R707-0047.
