starter generator vs stator

Recommended Posts

so guys i’m wondering does the starter generator system charge better than a stator charging system because i feel like the starter generator would be better at running accessories and charging the battery than a regular stator behind the flywheel  but i don’t know what do you guys think :bow-blue:

The S/Gs Kohler used run about 12 amps   Early stators 10 amps later models 15.

Alternator needs a bit of juice from the battery to kick start charging while the generator does not, in the old days one could push start a car or truck without the battery installed using only the generator - standard transmission and certain automatics.

The generators weak points, requires higher engine rpm's, in storage for prolonged periods the residual magnetism can be lost, the fields are easily flashed to restore.

Yup - the old Chevy cast iron Powerglide has both a front & rear pump back in the 1950's. Had to get them up to about 35 MPH to do it though...

Generators - I had 2 vehicles with them and don't miss them. Your headlights at idle would dim down at night about as bright as 2 fireflies in a Mason jar.
