mkevinr63 4 #1 Posted July 1, 2009 I spun a clutch pulley a couple of weeks ago. I replaced it and the belt, now it won't start. I unhooked the wires from the "clutch Switch" or little button that goes in when the clutch is depressed, used a nail to jump it and it fired right up. Right after I put the new pulley and belt on it fired up and ran great, I stopped to check the tightness on the bolt and that was it, no more, she just sat there looking at me. Is it possible I messed something up? Do those safety switched go bad? How long can I continue to jump it with my little nail until something really goes wrong? Duff 206 #2 Posted July 1, 2009 Kevin, some safety switches do "go bad" with age. Some will last 40 years, others 40 days. Doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason although water tends to be the culprit in most cases. Your little nail is simply jumping or bypassing the switch. From a mechanical standpoint it's probably not going to do any harm. From a safety standpoint, I have to leave that up to your judgement and sense of comfort around your machine. Others with more expereince may wish to chime in here....... Duff :thumbs2:
rick 255 #3 Posted July 1, 2009 I ended up replacing the switch and the piece that pushes the button in on my C-
jpmcleod 4 #4 Posted July 1, 2009 If it is a starting problem, it want hurt to by-pass it. The only thing is that it will start in gear if the cluch is not depressed. I eliminated every switch with the exception of the mower deck and seat safety switches. I always park my tractors in nutral with the brake pedal in the lock position, that way I can't start it in gear and run into the barn wall.
