handyman 1 #1 Posted July 1, 2009 I am putting together a tractor from several and have run into a problem. The chassis is a 416-8 that originally had a single cylinder Kohler. The replacement engine is a twin cylinder Kohler Magnum 18. On the 16 hp, the exhaust came out the front I assume and on the 18hp, it runs along the side of the engine. Apparently, the upper bracket for the pto half circle piece (I have seen it called a bail) is different. The exhaust on the 18 has a bracket on the bottom that bolts to the engine. This is in the way using the 16 upper bracket and will not allow the PTO to move and engage. Hope this is clear. Will the upper bracket fit from any other single cylinder magnum engine as well? Thanks.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted July 1, 2009 Did the M18 come from a Wheel Horse?
handyman 1 #3 Posted July 2, 2009 Yes, the 18 twin was removed from a horse. The previous owner told me the original tractor it was on was a 417-A and the engine went bad. The warranty replacement engine they installed was an 18hp. It even had the mount plate installed on the bottom. I thought this would be an easy engine swap.....
