857lover 291 #1 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) ok so ive been having a fuel issue for a while so what happens is that it runs fine for a couple hours then it dies like just dies doesn't bog downb and die it just dies or you shut it off then it doesn't start again and i clean the carb that's brand new its a i save tractors carb and then it works for a couple more hours then bam same issue and i just keep cleaning the carb even though it dosetn seem dirty and then i put on a 75 micron fuel filter from kholer and flushed my tank and still this persists and i pulled the old metal fuel pump off and for some reason it dosnt have a rod on it that actually pumps so i put on from my k301 to see what would happen and now i cant even get gas out of the pump any ideas is the pump on a k301 diffrent from a pump on a k181? ri702bill 9,400 #2 Posted April 3, 2022 Yes, they are different - the 181 has a "straight" lever, the 301 has a bend in the lever. No rod? - does it have lever? could be vacuum actuated ....

pfrederi 18,650 #4 Posted April 3, 2022 Earlier K181s frequently came with pulse style (no lever) pumps
squonk 43,780 #5 Posted April 3, 2022 Did you ever get your belt problem resolved before moving on to this problem? 1

skrusins 128 #9 Posted April 4, 2022 That would be. https://www.then-now-auto.com/kohler-fuel-pumps-2/ I also had that same problem on my K181 finally went to a low flow electric fuel pump, no more problems.

Did the pulley fix it?

Did the pulley fix it? well there was a couple things i changed the pulley that helped a little but i put a heavier reurn spring and i unhooked the clutch/brake rod and turned it in one turn and it really helped

rjg854 12,175 #14 Posted April 4, 2022 It may just be a $10 diaphragm that is your problem. Buckrancher sells them. I've changed a couple over the years. Not hard to do.

Have you pulled the fuel line that comes from the pump to the carb? Crank the engine, do you get a good pulse of fuel? If not the diaphragm might be it. Are you getting any fuel in the crankcase? That's a sign of a leaking diaphragm.
