Onan P Series 216,218,220 physical size

Im working on a non work horse project that has a smoked P216.  (Seriously only 150 hours on engine.  Previous owners pulled air cleaner off and let it set for years to fill up with rain water)

I don't have time to do full rebuild....but have found a good running P220.

Just curious if anyone knows if the physical bodies and output shafts of the P series motors are the same and all HP differences were based upon bore and stroke.

I can't guarantee the output shaft is the same, because Onan engines were used by dozens of different brands. Wheel Horse used Onan engines with 1.125 OD output shaft size. Length would have been around 3.25 or slightly more.

But everything else external will be the same dimensions for all three engines.

Internally, the 216 and 218 are nearly identical as well. 220 has only minor differences.

Thanks Kpinnic.  I would love to assume the output shaft is the same but good point about different applications.  You think as a motor manufacturer thry would have said here's our engine you make your stuff fit.

Im gonna start measuring up what my 216 has and hopefully its a match

It is quite the opposite, actually , as in "Here is our order with our specifications, when can we expect delivery?"

Do you guys happen to know if the oil pans on these things are cast steel, cast Aluminum, or just pot metal? Just noticed on of the mounting feet is cracked.  Looking at options to repair it

Should be aluminum and a good welder can fix it.  Good luck.

Thank you for that information.  I have a really good fab guy right around the corner.  Guess its time to trade beer for labor again.
