C-160 quit

Just as if I turned the key to off. Jumped the starter. No problem, but wouldn't start. Jumped the coil. Hit the key nothing. Jump the coil and the starter. Spun but wouldn't start. (Switch was probably off). Jumped the coil and turned the switch to start and it fired up! Finished blowing snow off my neighbors driveway. Put It in the shed and turned the key off. Of course it kept running until I unhooked the jumper. Don't understand any of this. I'm sure (I think) that either the wire from the switch to the coil.is broken. Or, the switch is bad. I'll check continuity of the wire before I buy another switch but I'm puzzeled why it didn't work when I jumped everything.

What is the long model number of the tractor? With that we can look at the correct wiring diagram.

Over the years some of our electrical connections become corroded or loosen up. A problem anywhere can become a problem for the whole system.

If it has an ammeter, check it's connections and the meter itself. If I had a dollar for every time I found this issue I could buy a good steak! :)

Geez!! aint that the truth - I've got to where I HATE ammeters!! One of the first things I do to a new buy is to go thru the wiring on the ammeter and when assured all OK, I change to a voltmeter......

I  apologize for taking so long to respond. I didn't it the email notification!

Yes, it has an ampmeter. Thank you for that suggestion. I never would have thought to look there. The ign switch was replaced last year which is why I was thinking it might be a bad wire.       C-160

Finally got around to converting from a snow blower to a lawn mower. While I was at it I Pulled the Amp Meter and saw one of the leads had come off. Plugged it back in and now the Horse runs like new.....or at least better than a 50 YO tractor has any right to be running.
