Goldnboy 1,035 #1 Posted February 21, 2022 Does anyone have or was there a service bulletin about when a PTO cone needed replaced. I have replaced the front and rear bearings on several and a few I needed to tru up the disc surface with a belt sander like done with a engine head. I Just haven't seen any beyond repair. Thoughts? oldlineman 1,541 #2 Posted February 21, 2022 I have a 1979 c-101 with original PTO never replaced, just a little maintenance now and then. Bob
lynnmor 7,848 #3 Posted February 21, 2022 Under normal use they should last a lifetime. Excessive clutch slippage can overheat and crack that area. Running a bearing till it is fragments can gouge out the bearing bores. Sitting out for long periods of time can rust pits into the belt surfaces. Some of these preventable issues can be repaired in a machine shop but most likely buying a good used one is the best route, I have turned the clutch face, brake surface and V-belt grooves to true them on my lathe but it wouldn't be cost effective to pay someone. As far as a wear limit, I don't know of any spec.
wallfish 18,195 #4 Posted February 21, 2022 The one on the 520 I received had the pulley grooves worn wide. The belt must've slipping running a 60" deck for a while. When it got a 2 stage blower the belt would slip under load so it had to be changed. Took a while to figure that out as a worn pulley groove was the last thing on the list to check.
