Walbro carb on Kohler 12 HP

Recommended Posts

I have discovered a little more side to side play in my throttle shaft on my Walbro 12 HP Kohler than should be. This may be the cause of slightly irregular idle at times. At WOT it has no effect. Does Kohler make a bushing repair kit for this? Thanks!

Kohler bushing 2515802-5 NLA, you can check Evilbay but I have not seen one there in a good while.

What most of us use is a Hillman bronze bushing 58087 found in those gray drawers at your hardware store.  It goes in the top recess that was originally for a felt seal.

Sometimes I can stack 2 of them, sometimes only one.

If it is a little tight on the shaft take a drill bit and with just your fingers turn the bit to ream it out.

I am wondering if that carb is still available? I bought this one new in 97 from where I can't remember right now.

File the tips of those screws off flush before trying to remove them. There usually brass and file very easy with a fine file...

One little tip, (just about on topic), if you file brass, it’s best to use a new file, and keep it solely for use on brass. Once a file has been used on steel, it’s performance on brass is reduced considerably!

As for the play there is a bushing already installed. I guess it's factory? I can't remember installing one in this carb. So at this point I don't know if I have a worn shaft or bushing or both?

If the shaft itself is worn and you cant find another, clean it well where it’s worn and tin it with plumbers solder to build it back up, sand it, or machine it to size. You could also try ‘JB’ Weld, instead of solder. When you remove the remains of the sheared off screw, screw it ‘In’ to remove, rather than trying to screw it ‘Out’, it will probably be easier.

My guy here ordered a new throttle shaft but it came in wrong. Way to short and the top portion was incorrect. Anyone have any luck finding the correct piece? Spec # 46766

So after searching for the correct throttle shaft and finding nothing I decided to buy this complete carb. It is supposed to be a direct replacement for my 470 53 13. What scares me is the price of $25.00 shipped. Coming from https://www.ebay.com/usr/partman-small-engine-parts?_trksid=p2047675.m3561.l2559  anyone else buy these? Thanks! Dave

If the Chinese carb doesn’t work well, you could maybe take the throttle spindle out of it and use it in the original carb? You never know, it might fit!
