Oil?

Recommended Posts

OK.... I'm getting ready to change the transmission oil/filter and engine oil.

So, I've looked at the "manual', But I want the professionals opinions here.

I have a 417A. Manual says to use 10W30 or 10W40 in the tranny. And 30W or 10W30 in the engine.

At this point I am not using it in winter....so 32 degrees plus.

Your thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

If it was mine I would use Shell Rotella T 30W in the engine and 10W30 in the transmission. I use Rotella T in all my engines and have for years with no complaints.

OK. Well, that was retarded.

Got the oil changed on the engine...THAT was the easy part.

Changing to tranny oil/filter proved to be a little more difficult. Draining the oil was easy.....that is ONCE I was able to break loose the plug. THEN, the filter is in a goofy place so I had to remove the back tire so I could get an oil wrench in there....of course oil went everywhere.....

Filter back on....drain plug back in....

Now, how the hell do you get the oil in the little hole? :thumbs2:

Well, a small funnel. OK.....pouring the oil.....Guess what? Well oil goes in...air has to somehow get out.....

Yup, you guessed it....bubbling back out and splashing oil all over me....friggin hilarious.

So, now that I spent a long time pouring the oil VERY slowly....

Anyone have an easier way to fill the tranny? For next time it needs done?

Not sure how hard it would be to reach but if there was a bolt on the top of the tranny you could loosen it or remove it alltogether to let air out while filling. I did this when I swapped the fliud in my D-160 and the oil went in just as fast as I could pour it.

Mike.........
