Next project for this winter.

Hi guys and gals, 

 

Unfortunately  for this forum my next project isn’t a horse. It’s a Cub. I bought a basket case 61’ original last year for 80 bucks. I’ve been accumulating some parts for months now, like the original oil bath air cleaner. Time to dig in, and I’ll post all updates here. Might be slow cause I’m also working on my 64’ C10.

We are perfectly okay with that as well. 

Cubs, in fact, I what got me into garden tractors in the first place...

I’m still accumulating parts for the truck. To date I have the complete floor pan with cab supports, a/b pillar extensions and inner rockers/outer rockers. On order, inner front fenders, windshield etc. I’m working on all the mechanical stuff but I’m working with a shop down the road called limitless Rods and Custom for replacement of the body panels. Once work starts I plan on getting pictures to share. Once that’s done I’m updating the front end to include a full replacement of all components and disc breaks. Then a complete rewire. As I stated, the drive train is mint, I just need to get the rest up to snuff.

Merry Christmas fellas. Not so merry a night for my little Cub. After a great day with my children and a lot of awesome food I retire to my safe place aka work shop. Pulled the little 161 down to see what it was about. To my horror it has a .030 piston and scores you can catch a thumb nail in. I think this block may be a paper weight. Oh well. I won’t give up that easy. Let the search begin!

Looking around, my best bet would be a 181 block. Same bore different stroke. Fairly Cheap too. I’m a stickler for original but a good 161 block in the correct configuration could be a challenge. I haven’t looked much so we will see.

Wouldn't hurt to place an ad on Redsquare. 

Check with Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA too. 

 

Who will do the needed machine work on the engine for you?

If I need machine work it would be KJE in Rochester. Kevin did my K341. He does very nice work

You know if he does cam regrinding too?

I won’t speak for him but I’m fairly sure he does everything related to engine machining. He’s a throw back to the good old days!
