Craig-906 28 #1 Posted December 19, 2021 Has anyone used trufuel in your tank before storing your tractor for the winter?
squonk 43,780 #2 Posted December 19, 2021 That's what I use for storing the winter equipment all summer and the show tractors during the winter.
Brockport Bill 1,933 #3 Posted December 19, 2021 how do you use it - do you run it thru for a few minutes or what?
rjg854 12,175 #4 Posted December 19, 2021 I would say that's the best idea that way you can get the true fuel into your bowl on your carburetor

I've used the 50:1 mix for storage without issue. Any fuel left in the bowl after you run it dry will evaporate and the left over oil will coat the carb components and preserve them.
ri702bill 9,403 #7 Posted December 19, 2021 Craig: Yes - pricey, but it works. IF you are fortunate to have a NON ethanol fuel supplier near you - use that.- the orange or blue stores get about $20 for a "short" gallon here - non ethanol fuel is NOT that readily available here in the southern NE area. Short version - yes use it to run a tank or so before winter - FILL metal tanks with it for over the winter - NO issues starting in the spring ...
Brockport Bill 1,933 #8 Posted December 19, 2021 I have kept my 312-8 (with Kohler) indoors for winter all its 32 yrs - but used for plowing so it is periodically active for winter snow. However, I now have a few other horses that will be outdoors in unheated shed ( Hudson Valley, NY temps ) . Some will be used, others stored and not run till spring - is there such a term as "winterizing" tractors other than the typical engine routine of running gas dry as discussed here - or removing battery and trickle charging? What else might be "tips" for a WH that may not be used for winter months, or perhaps one that may be used occasionally? I have only had to start warm tractor from heated garage. I see comments about tractors outdoors in winter that "start right up" when temps in the single digits? Is that to be expected? Are there any other operational issues other than oil viscosity? thanks
rjg854 12,175 #9 Posted December 19, 2021 All my tractors are kept in an unheated shed and I have no problem starting them, even when the temps get down near zero.
