Stev la 0 #1 Posted November 28, 2021 Hi, my 310-8, 1989 has a wiring plug with four wires out of each side. Two of the wires come from the oil switch. The color on my wires do not match diagram I found. This connection had previously been repaired by a prior owner. Looking for info to make sure I have each of the four connected to the proper wire. Thank you

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,391 #3 Posted November 28, 2021 Welcome to the forum. Is the low oil relay still connected?
953 nut 59,249 #4 Posted November 29, 2021 There should be a dark blue wire that connects the ignition switch to the Magneto. Be sure that this wire never is in contact with 12 volts or it will fry your magneto. The other wire could be a white wire going to your voltage regulator if it is a late production unit. See picture of Voltage regulator picture below. If it is an early production unit the fourth wire will be white and have a small lump (diode) under some insulation, also a green and will go to your light switch. Hope this helps. Stev la 0 #5 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Someone cut the plug off one side of this connector and put separate connectors on each wire. The color of my wires do not match the wire chart. The chart also does not show this connector. If someone has a 310-8 and could take a picture of this connector that would be much appreciated . The red wires in my pic are coming from the oil switch.I have 2 red a black and white on one side and the other side of connector has a orange, white, blue and brown wire Edited November 29, 2021 by Stev la

Handy Don 13,683 #7 Posted November 29, 2021 Connector blocks are typically not shown on any of the wiring diagrams and colors are really never to be trusted implicitly. As you can see, there were no orange or tan wires in the diagram for your tractor (though there is a note that there are orange wires in the 1990 version). A further indication of PO alteration of your wiring is that corrugated wire loom. That isn't from WH. Your best bet is to take a paper copy of your wiring diagram and correlate it to what you actually have by tracing wires between components on the diagram. As you have each segment figured out, annotate the diagram with what you find. On really tricky wiring, I often put temporary labels with stuff like "key switch accessory to light switch" since I can't keep as much in my short term memory as I used to Then you can determine what you have (and possibly what is missing or extra?) and choose what to do next. 953 nut 59,249 #8 Posted November 30, 2021 With all the previous owner changes you may want to scrap that portion of your wiring and redo it with the correct colors as in the diagram. If you need to replace that connector and start fresh you can get al you need here. has the male and female terminals and plastic blocks to secure them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/382231331196?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=382231331196&targetid=1262779892849&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9010285&poi=&campaignid=14859008593&mkgroupid=130497710760&rlsatarget=pla-1262779892849&abcId=9300678&merchantid=8045744&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkZKNBhDiARIsAPsk0WjmLN7NKas4CBdZCbhzYb4XBhTK4KrTWyWnCQG5Y1OevPl2c1-NTcgaAvJ-EALw_wcB
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,391 #9 Posted November 30, 2021 I don't think it is as bad as it looks. The important thing before making changes is to identify the ignition magneto wire and the stator charge wire. If these are reversed the ignition coil will burn up. I was wrong about the starter. That wire goes from the low oil relay directly to the starter solenoid. Will guess the white wire in the Kohler connector is the magneto Will guess the purple wire in the Kohler connector is the stator output for the charging system These are the two that need to be confirmed to be correct. See illustration. Finally figured it out. The Kohler 48 155 01 connector is illustrated with the low oil switch in the Kohler parts manual. It is the same connector as used at the ignition switch. 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,391 #10 Posted November 30, 2021 There is a picture of a common 5-wire connector with the ignition switch. Click on the picture to see. It just might fit.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,391 #11 Posted December 1, 2021 Bare 5-wire female plastic connector is Kohler 48 155 01 illustrated with the low oil switch. (This also used at the ignition switch) Tractor harness male connector is Toro 112185 and illustrated with the electrical diagram in the tractor parts manual.. The white wire out of the engine is for the ignition. The violet wire out of the engine is the stator/rectifier output.
