SW Mich 0 #1 Posted June 19, 2009 I recently purchased an 84 Workhorse LT-1600 with a PTO that would not disengage. I figured that it would be an easy fix but I cannot figure out how the vertical shaft PTO should operate because I have never seen an operational one. When the PTO is engaged the ASM-CLUTCH BRAKE PTO moves the pad away from the pulley and with the PTO disengaged the pad is against the pulley. It makes no difference what position the PTO control is in the blades still rotate. I have tried what I see as easy fixes with no success and would appreciate any help in figuring this out. truckin88 104 #2 Posted June 19, 2009 There should be a brake pad that stops the pto belt pulley from moving when disengaged. When you move the lever, you should see it press the PTO pulley against the disk (I think they call it the clutch disk not sure), when you move it back to disengage you should see it pull away the pulley and belt towards the brake pad. A few things I have noticed, since I recently had to readjust mine, check that your pto belt/mule drive is not over tensioned, check that your lever adjustment on the plate is adjusted correctly, it is held on with a cotter pin, just remove the pin pop it out of the plate and you can move the end up and down the threaded area for adjustment. You can also adjust that brake pad I mentioned before in and out with the two bolts on it's mount. Mods: I hit the report button by accident, sorry, thats why you got this reply in there.
