Kenneth R Cluley 592 #1 Posted October 15, 2021 I'm working on 1963 Model 653. Didn't look all that bad, but you all know the drill! Deeper i got the more i found. Steering shafts welded, or attempted to, fan gear and link with various nails for pins, frame to transmission cracked and broken, hood cracked and patched, seat center cracked and broken, motor mounted with 1/4" bolts. My question is in reference to base plate. The lauson is long gone and this has a k91 in it. Do i need the base plate for any particular reason? The frame had been modified for the base with an oxy acetylene torch in an attempt to allow adjustment but the "slots" were crooked misaligned and horrible job! I patched them and put holes for Kohler engine in frame without plate. Should i just put engine in and check alignment and function or is plate important? And i have run into same world wide IH red paint shortage. Also found a deck, RM-324 with some "issues'. Has astro ventilation on front of shell and a PO side discharge option? Also needs some seals and bearings. Anyway I now have a pile of parts that i'm sorting out and just beginning to reassemble.
