Just wondering

The post about the shallow oil pan got me to thinking. ( a bad thing I know ) 2 cycle engines do not have an oil dipper, obviously. 2 cycles run on a gas and oil mixture, and do not require an oil pan. What would happen to a K 321 running on gas/oil mix, and no oil in the pan? Anybody want to try this, in your tractor?

On a two cycle engine the fuel/oil mix goes through the crankcase where it is pressurized prior to entering the combustion chamber.

Let us know how this works out for you!                     :confusion-helpsos:

:angry-nono: Not in my tractor, but I think I will try to find an old 4 cycle lawn mower and give this a shot. Inquiring minds want to know!

But the fuel/oil will never reach the crank case on a 4 stroke…

Be good me repellent too, I don’t want to be near a poorly lubricated engine. We had one come in the shop here a couple weeks ago, at my high school, and to owner forgot to put oil in it. Now if you try to run it, it makes a loud clicking and idles at the slowest speed I ever heard. Now we have to put a new engine in it. But I digress, it would repel me too.

oil in the pan will keep the lower half happy, and oil in the gas will keep the BUGS away !!!! so keep the oil in the crankcase, and feel free to run MIX in the gas !!!!

Todays low ash 2 cycles oils, really don't create any smoke at all.

If you make a transferport in de cilinder where the intake off the cilinder is taking air from the crankcase.

Running a Kohler on 2 stroke, would they be able to run a higher rpm?

Maxwell:

Yup - right up to the point where the connecting rod grabs the crank journal and the rod becomes a jigsaw puzzle.

Was the snowmobile Kohler a 2 stroke?

I think the Kohler snowmobile engine was a 4 stroke.

The Sthil string trimmer I bought this year is a 4 cycle that does not have an oil sump.  Something to do with emission laws.  It runs on 2 cycle mix, so it is possible to do this.  Turns out that the intake manifold is connected to the crank case in order to get the 2 cycle mix to where it needs to act as a lubricant.

There were Kohler 4 stroke engines installed in early snowmobiles, they couldn’t compete so 2 strokes were installed for a while.

thru, they have an intake and an exaust valve, no oil sump and run of 2stroke mix

If someone could find a way to throw needle bearings in the rod/crankshaft bearing... it would work...

Just... not for long...:teasing-tease:
