WHC-125 4 #1 Posted June 17, 2009 Today Bill and I went to Bristol to pick up a Raider 12. I bought it because I am going to make a pulling tractor out of it. I will get pictures as soon as possible. Again Bill
kpinnc 14,587 #2 Posted June 17, 2009 Better get a different tranny. The Raider 12s came with the 10 pinion differential. Not a good candidate for pulling. Kevin

kpinnc 14,587 #4 Posted June 17, 2009 Whats so bad about them? What if I use an 8 speed out of an 85 312-8 Nothing at all Chris, they are good transmissions. The 10 pinion diff is the WH equivalent to posi-trac, as it was designed to be limited slip. But the design of the diff is also a weaker version than that of a 8 pinion (like on a C series and MANY others). If you're gonna pull with no worries, then an 8 pinion is what you want back there. You can check to see which you have without taking anything apart. Just block the rear end up off of the ground so you can turn the rear wheels with your hand. If you turn one wheel, and the other spins the same way, you have a 10 pinion diff. If they spin the opposite way, and you have 1 and 1/8th axles, you probably have an 8 pinion. The 8 speed out of a 312 should be a 4 pinion, with 1 inch axles. A bit lighter duty than an 8 pinion, but probably easier to replace. If you pull in the stock class, you may have nothing to worry about regardless. But having busted one myself (10 pinion), and knowing others who have as well, I just wanted you to know. The differential being different does not make the entire tranny something you'll need to replace. MANY of the WH models used the 8 pinion diff- Eaton hydros (Horizontal-engine machines only), and any tractor listed with a 5091 or 103907 8 speed rear end will have that diff, as well as probably many others. Of course, it is easier to swap entire transmissions than to tear one down just for the same thing. Didn't mean to cause a stir. Kevin
WHC-125 4 #5 Posted June 17, 2009 They look like 1 1/8 and I jacked it up and they do spin together

hoghunter 0 #7 Posted June 18, 2009 Just picked up one myself. It is my first Wheelie. it is a 1965 855 in excellent shape. I plan on restoring it and using it around the house along with my other tractors. :thumbs2:
Coadster32 793 #8 Posted June 18, 2009 So if I do some pulling in a stock class with my newly aquired 854, I shouldn't have too much of a problem? I don't want to kill a round hodd, but just have a little fun.
baerpath 517 #9 Posted June 21, 2009 Chris Just a tale to add on My son pulled a Raider 12 when we started, (this was totally stock drop the deck and go pull) In one weekend we wiped out three 10 pinion rears. Put a 8 pinion in it and it pulled the next 5yrs with no problem. Swap one out of the C125 and you'll be good to go. Remember a good pull is one where the tractor drives off the trailer and back on under it's own power Duane
